GSLSC Nippers program

Welcome to the Gunnamatta Surf Lifesaving Nippers Education Program.  We look forward to seeing you and your nipper(s) at Gunnamatta Back Beach and the many GSLSC social events throughout the season.

Please take the time to review our nippers calendar outlining our program dates.  Follow our Instagram account and website to stay up to date with news and events.  From time to time, due to weather and conditions the scheduled program may incur changes which you will be notified of via email &/or text if last minute. 

 

2024 / 2025 Nipper Season Dates

This seasons session dates start on 27th December and finishes around the end of the first week of January (7th/8th/9th etc.) and times are scheduled to safe beach conditions, eg. low tide at Gunnamatta Beach.

Example of the 2023/2024 season dates:​

  • 27th December- Rye Front Beach 9am-11am

  • 28th December- Rye Front Beach 9am-11 am

  • 29th December- Gunnamatta Beach 9am -11am

  • 30th December- Gunnamatta Beach 9am-11am

  • 2nd January- Gunnamatta Beach 10am-12pm

  • 3rd January- Gunnamatta Beach 11am-1pm

  • 4th January- Gunnamatta Beach 11am-1pm

  • 5th January- (Friday) Rest day

  • 6th January- Gunnamatta Beach 12pm-2pm

  • 7th January- Gunnamatta Beach 12pm-2pm


To renew your Childs participation in our program, please re-register by September 30.

 

If you have a child (sibling) who will be 7 by the 1st of December and will be joining your family membership, you will need to add them to your family LSV membership (see details below on how to register with Life Saving Victoria (LSV).

Could you please email  nippers@gunnamattaslsc.com.au with the siblings name and date of birth if you no longer wish to participate in our Nipper program.

All participants that wish to be part of the Nippers Education Program must:

  • Be a financial club member for the current season

  • Be 7 – 13 years of age by midnight on December 1st.

  • Stay in designated age group, even if their birthday occurs during the season

  • Complete Swimming assessment and send to the club before 31st October prior to commencing Nipper activities in the water. 

Age Groups

A nipper is appointed to a particular age group each season based on their age at midnight on 1st December.  For example, a member turns 12 years of age on 1st December 2024, he/she will be registered as U13 for the 2024/25 season.  A member turns 7 years on 1st December 2024, he/she would be registered as U9 for the 2024/25 season.

 

Swimming Skill Assessments


This season we will not be offering Swimming Skill Assessments as part of our Nipper program. Please print off the appropriate age group Swimming assessment form and have your Childs swimming teacher sign off your Childs competencies.

Important information - Working with Children Check (WWCC)

 

All parent/guardians involved in Nippers must have a Working With Children Card (WWCC) to support the Nippers program. Please ensure you have a working with children card that is valid.  If you have not yet completed your WWCC, please follow the instructions here: https://service.vic.gov.au/services/working-with-children

• Volunteer for parent roles – we ask for your support with at least one volunteer shift per Nipper during the season

• If your uniform is yet to arrive or you forgot to order your rashies, spare gear can be purchased via the club house

• Caps will be provided on the first day of Nippers
